A Philippine release for Juno!!!

Over the past couple of months, I couldn’t help but take a gander on all the online buzz regarding this film…from screenwriter Diablo Cody’s past as a blogger/stripper, the Little Miss Sunshine comparisons (all that I can see is that they are both from Fox Searchlight), even the performances from Michael Cera (whom I liked in Superbad) and Ellen Page (this SHOULD be her year, they say).
Even the film’s soundtrack is going gangbusters on Billboard’s album chart, quite surprising at a time when the movie soundtrack itself appears to be a dying genre sales-wise. Already songs from the film (even Page and Cera’s renditions) are popping up all over YouTube.
I see all the write-ups being made online about just how good this film is - and this is no idle hype along the lines of “Snakes on A Plane”; this, they say is the real thing. There was even this issue about a similar Korean film with the title “Jenny Juno“…funny since in that said film, the character named Juno is male, but both films manage to deal with the consequences of teenage pregnancy.
It is for that reason why I am campaigning for a local release of this film…even a token screening at the Artfilm section of Greenbelt’s GB3 cineplex shall suffice. It was there where I managed to catch “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Gone Baby Gone” during their local runs. I know not many Pinoys might have caught Michael Cera’s performance in “Superbad” and Ellen Page doesn’t ring a bell with local moviegoers, but I just hope this will see the light of day in local theaters.
Sure, teenagers getting knocked up may be all over the news, but when you see ”Juno” you can be less judgemental and more understanding.
Even the poster artwork looks cool.

While I’m at it….why is the YouTube trailer not posting properly!!! It looks so easy in the WordPress FAQ but when I enter and save the code it doesn’t turn up!!!!!
P.S. Finally figured it out on how to post videos on my blog…it’s one thing my new broadband connection is finally letting me enjoy all the benefits of YouTube!!!

Since there are clear DVD versions already on sale in Metrowalk/Makati Cinema Square/Quiapo, I’d say there’s a very slim chance of it being released in the cinemas here. Besides, it doesn’t seem like a movie that really demands the ‘big screen’ treatment, in order to fully appreciate it. So more people will actually get a chance to see it, as long as the pirated copies are available.

Thaks for finding time to read my mini-campaign!!!
It pains my conscience to patronise pirated DVDs (even when I am continuing my music download habit)…anyway, guess what? Opened the entertainment section of yesterday’s issue of the Inquirer and….ta-dah…there IS a release date!
Mark Feb. 13 on your calendars…but it faces stiff competition from local offering BFGF and SF action-thriller Jumper. Not to mention
“There Will Be Blood” which opens exclusively at Gateway cinemas.

I saw Juno last year at Fox HQ UK. It is very, very, cool. If you can’t see it in the cinema, its probably worth downloading. A small screen will not affect the quality. (The quality is located in the writing and acting. Theres lots of it.) I wouldn’t feel bad about ripping off the studio – they’ve made a ton of money of this small budget picture!
